NCURA Region V Awards Committee
Overview
The awards committee serves the Region by promoting each awards opportunity, reviewing applications, and selecting recipients through a fair, transparent, and timely process. Awards goals involve:
- Recognize and celebrate excellence, service, and professional development among Region V members
- Promote each award widely so that all eligible members have the opportunity to apply
- Select recipients through a fair, transparent, and consistent review process
- Support member participation in regional and national professional development through travel awards
- Honor the legacy and intent behind each named award
- Communicate award decisions on schedule so recipients can be recognized in a timely way
Membership
Members collaborate on administering the full slate of Region V awards: the Joan Howeth National Travel Award, Quinten S. Mathews Regional Travel Award, Susan Wyatt Sedwick Experienced Member Travel Award, Mustang Mentoring Program Travel Award, and Distinguished Service Award. Members advertise and open applications for each award according to the annual awards timeline, maintain application materials, eligibility criteria, and submission processes for each award, collect and organize submitted applications by each deadline, convene to review applications and select recipients for each award, notify recipients and coordinate communication of results, and coordinate with Region V leadership on award presentation and recognition.
The committee’s work follows the annual awards timeline, concentrated from April through September, with the heaviest activity in August and September when several award cycles run concurrently. Members should expect a commitment of approximately 2–4 hours per month during this period.
The committee’s work is conducted primarily electronically, through email, application review, and virtual meetings.

Site Selection Committee
Overview
The Site Selection Committee serves the Region by selecting future sites for Regional meetings. Selection includes:
- Identifying locations for in-person or virtual meetings
- Identifying dates for the Region V Fall Meeting
- Visiting locations to assess accessibility, fit, and capabilities
- Developing the RFP for site selection terms and contracts
- Negotiating and securing site contracts
- Connectin with the location’s convention and visitorsbureau to plan for meeting engagement
- Compiling a report for future Region Meeting Chairs to inform site details and meeting planning
Committee Structure & Appointment
As indicated in the NCURA Region V Committee Policy, the Site Selection Committee is an ad hoc committee. It exists only during the one-year term of service of the Immediate Past Chair, and only for the period needed to accomplish the committee’s goals. The Immediate Past Chair serves as chair of the committee and is responsible for assembling its membership.
Membership
Members collaborate on planning, organizing, and assembling plans and materials based on the committee’s needs, under the guidance and direction of the committee chair. Duties are primarily electronic, with some in-person site visits required to evaluate site fit and amenities.
From January through July, members should expect a commitment of approximately:
- 2 – 4 hours per month for virtual site selections
- 5 – 8 hours per month for in-person site selections, which require travel
Travel Expectations
Travel for this committee centers on visiting potential sites for evaluation and selection. Travel costs will be reimbursed in accordance with NCURA’s standard Travel Policy, with trips arranged to consolidate travel and reduce costs wherever possible.
