Experience and Honors

Dr. Manning began his independent research career at Vanderbilt University in 2006, where he completed his postdoctoral research fellowship. Throughout his time at Vanderbilt, he worked his way up from Research Assistant Professor to the prestigious position of Vanderbilt Ingram Professor of Cancer Research within the Division of Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center. In 2020 he chose to further his research career at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, holding positions as a professor, scientific director, and graduate faculty. Coming to Texas was much like returning to the comfort of a familiar place, as he got his start in chemistry research as a student at Tarleton State University (Stephenville, TX) then went on to complete his PhD at Texas Tech University (Lubbock, TX).

Role in Research Administration

As those of us in the field of Research Administration know, the longevity and depth of a researcher’s career does not stem solely from having a stellar research background; now, more than ever, it also relies on willingness and strategy to seek funds to secure resources and support.  Dr. Manning credits much of his career growth and dynamic research to his diverse portfolio of funding sources.

Though he has only been with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center for about two years, he has often expressed his respect and appreciation for the work Research Administrators do to support his research and keep programs going. This positive working relationship with Research Administrators has helped him grow his grant support throughout his career, and still continues to benefit his work as well as many others involved in these projects. Because of this, his grant portfolio is highly diversified, including sponsors such as CPRIT, NIH, Department of Defense, institutional grants, and industry contracts.

Join us in warmly welcoming Dr. H. Charles Manning to the NCURA Region V 2022 Fall Meeting!

The Keynote Address is tentatively scheduled for Monday, November 7th, at 12:15 – 1 pm
